Helping War Veterans Keep Their Homes

Gilbert AZ - The Home Sweet Home Campaign, a homegrown initiative designed to raise money to help returning veterans, rolled out its “Groups That Care” program this week – a program designed to help organizations of any kind to join in this worthwhile cause. The initiative is designed to give any type of group, organization or business the opportunity to give back to post 9/11 war veterans and their families. With a grassroots approach, the Home Sweet Home Campaign is rallying local communities and national companies to help raise awareness of the war veterans’ needs. Through the program, funds will be raised and donated to USA Cares, a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to assist combat injured veterans and their families and to prevent private military home foreclosures and evictions.

“There is a need in our communities to get involved and give back,” said Beth Ann VanHoose, founder of the Home Sweet Home Campaign. “The ‘Groups That Care’ program is a perfect way to accomplish this need.”

Currently, there are three ways a group can get involved. Organizations can sponsor Friday T-Shirt Days within their companies or be a featured “group” on the website and donate a percentage of your sales generated through the Home Sweet Home website to USA Cares. Organizations can also be a sponsor for an upcoming event.  With each option the Home Sweet Home Campaign will work with the group to set a goal and even customize the program to better fit the groups’ needs.

“I feel proud to have a son in the United States Air Force and I believe we need to support every man and woman who serves our country.  This is the least I can do to help those that keep America safe and free,” said Sharon Somerville, one of the Home Sweet Home’s “Groups That Cares”. Sharon, an agent for RE/MAX Power Realty in Queen Creek AZ, has pledged to donate a percentage of every home closing to USA Cares.

The Home Sweet Home Campaign was inspired by Tim Little, a US Army reservist who served two tours in the Middle East and currently suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Little and his family nearly lost their home while he was being evaluated by the VA, but thanks to USA Cares, they were able to stay in their home and focus on the future and healing.

The Home Sweet Home Campaign is a grassroots approach to raising awareness and funds for our post 9/11 war veterans.  Partnering with local schools, businesses and organizations in key cities across the country the Home Sweet Home campaign has pledged to raise $1 million dollars for USA Cares, a 501(c)3 organization. For every T-shirt and River Rock sold, $5 will be donated to USA Cares.
