Phoenix, Ariz. – The entire state of Arizona is getting involved in the Drowning Impact Awareness Month effort, the purple ribbon campaign to remind families about the risks of child drownings. The Pointe Hilton Resorts are longtime supporters of the effort, and this year will distribute purple ribbons to staff and guests at both the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, and the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs resorts during August. Additionally, water safety information will be provided on their website, and a special free event will be offered.
The Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, located at 7677 N. 16th Street in Phoenix, will host a “Water Safety Awareness Day” at the Hole in the Wall River Ranch, on Friday, August 14th, from 4 to 7 pm. In addition to free swimming in the resort’s luxurious pool and water slide, activities include water safety games with Water Watchers at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, activities with Phoenix Fire Department personnel, live music and dancing with singing firefighter Billy Scott, public safety vehicles, and a helicopter. Attendance may be limited.
Drowning Impact Awareness Month is a statewide campaign to raise awareness of child drowning risk, in a month when searing temperatures and back-to-school distractions can spell danger around the pool. Supporters are encouraged to wear purple ribbons all month long, and to take simple steps like shutting pool gates and refreshing CPR lessons. Child drowning risks may be raised in a tight economy, but awareness is free, and the Pointe Hilton Resorts are part of the solution to keep Arizona’s children safe.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class care in more than 40 pediatric specialties to our state’s sickest kids. Though Phoenix Children’s is one of the ten largest freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, rapid population growth in Arizona means the Hospital must grow as well. Phoenix Children’s recently announced a $588 million expansion plan to bring its special brand of family-centered care to even more patients and families. The plan includes a significant upgrade of the Hospital’s current campus, an aggressive physician recruitment effort, and new satellite centers in high growth areas of the Valley.
