The Kohl’s A-Team volunteer grant program raised over $10,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Phoenix, AZ - On Tuesday, June 9th, more than 125 volunteers from Kohl’s Department Stores A-Team, the company’s associate volunteer program, facilitated play activities throughout the day for patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The “Day of Play” included fun summer craft activities, Kohl’s Cares for Kids® books for reading and a stuffed animal adoption and “Wellness Checks”. The tables were turned as the young patients got to play doctor on their newly adopted stuffed animals. For many children, the day’s activities provided a welcomed break from their daily routines.

“The thing that impressed me most about the ‘Day of Play’ was the positive energy that the Kohl’s A-Team brought into the hospital with them,” said Will Mandeville, Director of Corporate and Business Giving for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. “It says a lot about a company and its values that so many would volunteer their time to help our kids, and that the company encourages and supports that involvement in the way that Kohl’s does.”

Throughout the year, in its stores nationwide and online at Kohls.com, Kohl’s sells special Kohl’s Cares for Kids® books and plush toys for $5 each with 100 percent of the net profit benefiting children’s health and education initiatives nationwide. Since the program’s inception in 2000, Kohl’s has raised more than $126 million toward that mission. Since 2004, Kohl’s has contributed $1,091,895 to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Though Phoenix Children’s is one of the ten largest freestanding children’s hospitals in the country, rapid population growth in Arizona means the Hospital must grow as well. Phoenix Children’s recently announced a $588 million expansion plan to bring its special brand of family-centered care to even more patients and families. The plan includes a significant upgrade of the Hospital’s current campus, an aggressive physician recruitment effort, and new satellite centers in high growth areas of the Valley.
