Introducing Ten-Year-Old Martha Rivers to the Grand Canyon State Games

Tempe, AZ – One of the competitors in this year’s Grand Canyon State Games’ International Summer Games’ swimming competition is ten-year-old Martha Rivers of the Cayman Islands.  Swimming since the age of 4, Martha has acquired many awards in her home town including being the first ever to receive a high point award in a swim meet in the Grand Cayman Meet of 2007, and The Lion’s Club Outstanding Swimmer Award for two consecutive years in a row at the Annual Cayman Brac Meet.

Martha is no stranger to hard work and dedication. She practices a minimum of three days a week. She has trained with Coach Nick Baker (former US Olympic swim coach) as well as the Stingray Swim Club in the Grand Cayman Islands.  In addition to practicing her skill, Martha recognizes the importance of a good education.  She is a straight “A” honor roll student and placed 3rd in her school’s spelling bee, continuing on to compete in her national spelling bee competition.

Like any other young person, Martha enjoys playing games on the computer, listening to music, reading, and tending to her 7 puppies her dog recently and “mysteriously” gave birth to!
