PHOENIX, Ariz. - Desert Schools Federal Credit Union employees raised $18,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital during its annual Children’s Miracle Network BBQ and talent show.

The event was held recently at the credit union’s Papago headquarters in Phoenix. Festivities included a raffle and BBQ lunch cooked up by senior executives. An all-employee “Guitar Hero” and karaoke contest also helped raise funds. Food for the event was donated by local grocer, Fresh & Easy.

“Even in challenging times, this event just keeps getting better,” said Ron Amstutz, senior vice president for the credit union. “Raising money for Phoenix Children’s Hospital is something we’re extremely passionate about. And every year, our employees, members, sponsors and volunteers raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help kids who need it most right here in Arizona,”Amstutz said.

Desert Schools is the #1 credit union in America for Children’s Miracle Network fundraising. In 2008, the credit union contributed a record $362,000 to the ’1 Darn Cool School’ at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The Desert Schools annual charity golf tournament held last March in the West Valley raised $230,000 in just one day. Other annual fundraising events include a bowl-a-thon and spare change drives held throughout the credit union’s 64 branch locations. The credit union currently employs more than 1,200 staffers.
