Today has been Declared Clayton Kuhles Day

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Rep. Lucy Mason (R-Prescott) today recognized the extraordinary efforts of Clayton Kuhles who has brought home the remains of more than 106 missing in action servicemen from World War II. The Governor has also declared today, May 14th, as Clayton Kuhles day.

“Clayton Kuhles is a patriot and a true American hero, who gives of himself to honor those who have fallen,” Rep. Mason said. “Mr. Kuhles is a mountain climber who uses his own resources to make countless trips to India in an effort to locate and identify America’s missing in action personnel,” she added.

According to Rep. Mason she was contacted by Dr. Steve Chambers of Prescott and told about a resident, Clayton Kuhles, who has made it his personal mission to bring closure to families whose son’s went missing during the Second World War.

Dr. Chambers’ family was helped by Mr. Kuhles in 2007 when he successfully located the B-24 that Sheldon Chambers was co-piloting when it went down on January 25, 1944 in a remote mountain area over India.

“For 63 years my family and the families of the other crew members never knew what happened to their loved ones,” Dr. Chambers said. “My grandmother thought my uncle was still alive. Even though everyone else had lost hope, my grandmother still held on to the hope she would find him again,” he added. “Thanks to Clayton, we have.”

Nine members of the Chambers family, including Sheldon’s bride who is now 91 years-old is at the Capitol today to recognize the extraordinary efforts of Mr. Kuhles. Since helping the Chambers family, Kuhles has been back to India twice. On his last trip he contacted Malaria.

“The Chambers family is one of many families Mr. Kuhles has helped over the years,” Rep. Mason said.
