First annual “Arts Olympics” to be held June 13, 2009 at Central Arizona College

Apache Junction, AZ – Believing the arts are one of the fundamental building blocks to a well-rounded education, the Superstition Area Cultural Alliance, in association with Central Arizona College is sponsoring the First Annual Arts Olympics- a program that offers youth a chance to experience different forms of art from accomplished artists and instructors.

The Arts Olympics are being held at the Superstition Mountain Campus of Central Arizona College at 273 Old West Hwy. Apache Junction, AZ, Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until noon with check-in and orientation at 8:30 a.m. in the main courtyard of the campus.

“This program is designed to give attendees a brief overview of specific arts disciplines and to help attendees identify an area of the arts that appeal to them,” says Joel Coplin, SACA’s Chairman.  Classes are limited in size so that there is an intimate classroom atmosphere and the ability to interact personally with the instructor.  All students ages 6-18 are welcome to participate, however some age restrictions apply to some classes.

Event/Subjects include: Digital Photography, Ceramic Tile Painting, Watercolor Painting, Shadow Puppetry, Friendship Bracelet / Lanyards, Story Writing / Illustration, Song Writing, Beginning Dance, Pinch Pot Making, Portrait Painting, Acting Classes, Dance, Drawing and Making Your Own Greeting Cards

Students must participate in three (3) events at the Arts Olympics. This allows them to get coaching and direction in a variety of arts disciplines to help find an area of interest that excites them. The program is very affordable; only $15 per participant for all three events. Information and online registration can be found at www.sacaaz.org.
