PARKERSBURG, W. VA. – After 4 hours, 52 minutes and 10 seconds, Chad Hall crossed the finish line at the 26.1 mile Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20, 2009. His father Kenneth followed him almost two hours later. For both men, it was a double victory.

“We fulfilled a dream of running the Boston Marathon together while raising much-needed funds for an incredible organization,” says Chad Hall, regional field service manager of Simonton Windows in Paris, Ill. “Being part of the 30-member Homes for Our Troops team that was running to support housing needs for severely disabled service people made all the difference in the world to us. We were part of something so much bigger than ourselves and our personal goals — the true desire to raise funds for deserving service people.”

More challenging and difficult than either of the Halls expected, the Boston Marathon course included a multitude of tough hills. “We trained on the flat lands in Illinois which was very different than the actual course through the hilly streets of Boston,” says Hall. “The highlight for us was around mile 25. There was a tremendous cheering section of Homes for Our Troops people. That gave us the mental push to keep going.”

Contributing to the overall Homes for Our Troops running team goal, the Halls, competing as “Team Simonton,” have raised $9,643 to date from various individuals and organizations. The entire Homes for Our Troops running team has raised $189,194 to date.

“This was the toughest race I ever ran in my life,” says Hall. “However, when I think of what our dedicated service men and women do for us every day in the active military service, it’s a privilege to have run in their honor.”
