Thunderbird Joins Table for Two to Fight Hunger and Lifestyle Diseases
April 24, 2009 · Published By Editor
(GLENDALE, Ariz.) – Thunderbird School of Global Management became the first organization in North America to join Table for Two, a nonprofit organization working to promote health in the developing world by addressing hunger and lifestyle-related diseases.
Chartwells (The Compass Group), Thunderbird’s food service provider, will offer a healthy meal with less than 800 calories each day. For each choice meal purchased, Chartwells will donate 20 cents to the Table For Two designated recipients.
“Thunderbird is proud to be a pioneer in North America for Table For Two,” said Thunderbird President Dr. Angel Cabrera. “There is a portion of the world where one of the top threats to a person’s health is obesity. Then you go to other parts of the world, and one of their top threats is they don’t have sufficient nutrition. This program addresses both of these problems.”
Table for Two already has provided approximately 600,000 school meals to hungry children in Uganda, Malawi and Rwanda. The organization was launched in Japan by members of the Forum of Young Global Leaders in partnership with the World Economic Forum.
“We are very excited that Thunderbird is the first institution to adopt the Table For Two program in the U.S.,” says Masa Kogure, president of Table For Two International. “It is our hope that this social movement takes root and spreads based off this great collaboration with a business program that ranks among the world’s elite.”
Around 30 well-known firms and local government offices in Japan are participating in the program, including IBM Japan, Japan Airlines and Itochu.
Thunderbird, which has specialized in global business education for more than 60 years, offers a wide range of degree and nondegree programs for full-time students and working professionals, including a recently launched Evening MBA, which will allow working professionals in Arizona to keep their jobs while attending classes at night. Other signature programs include the traditional and accelerated MBA, the Executive MBA, the Global MBA On-Demand, the Global MBA for Latin American Managers, the Master of Science in Global Management and the Master of Arts in Global Affairs and Management.
