Gilbert Public Schools Appoints New Elementary School Principals

Gilbert Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointments of Mike Davis as Principal of Pioneer Elementary School and Bill Roth as Principal of Ashland Ranch Elementary School. Their appointments will begin July 1, 2009. The GPS Governing Board approved the appointments at Tuesday evening’s Governing Board meeting.
Mr. Mike Davis is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a B.S. in Elementary Education. He also attended Northern Arizona University to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
Mike taught Junior High math in Coolidge, Arizona for two years, and five years at Highland Junior High School. He spent a year and a half as a Dean of Students at Highland Junior High School and Desert Ridge Junior High School. He has spent the last two years as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at South Valley Junior High School.
“I am very grateful and appreciative of the years I was able to spend with George Bowers, Jean Woods, and in the last two years, Brian Jaeger. I have had great mentors in GPS, and will take this opportunity to share my experiences with Pioneer Elementary. I am very excited to get to know the staff, students, and community at Pioneer, and begin the process of a smooth transition into the 2009-2010 school year.”
Mike lives in Queen Creek, Arizona, with his wife Nicole, and two daughters.
Mr. Bill Roth has more than fifteen years of public education experience across diverse populations as both an administrator and educator. He has taught kindergarten, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth grade in Mesa Public Schools and in the Florence Unified School District. In Mesa, he was acting summer school Principal for three years and served as Dean of Students in Florence.
Bill is currently in his second year at Highland High School serving as Assistant Principal. At Highland, he oversees the Special Education Department, AVID, graduation, and has implemented the “Center 4 Success” class. Last summer, Bill was the summer school Principal at Mesquite High School.
Bill earned his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in Elementary Education, his Master’s degree from NAU in Elementary Education, and his administration certification from ASU. Consequently, Bill is an avid Sun Devils fan.
Bill is married and has two elementary school-age children, both of whom attend GPS schools. His wife has worked over seventeen years as a Gilbert Public Schools educator.
