Mesa Seeks Public Input on Housing and Revitalization Funding

April 9, 2009 · Published By Associate Editor

The City of Mesa Housing and Revitalization is in the process of preparing a one year Consolidated Plan for FY 09/10 for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in order to qualify for federal entitlement funding.

As part of the process, the City solicits input from the community.  An online survey is now available for residents and community leaders to offer feedback on what they feel are important needs in Mesa so the City can prioritize its grant funds.

The Consolidated Plan is a comprehensive planning document that identifies the City’s overall needs in housing and community development for low and moderate income persons and will outline a one-year strategy to address those needs.  A copy of the draft 1-year Consolidated Plan is available for review on Housing and Revitalization’s website at http://www.mesaaz.gov/housing/applicationprocess.aspx.

Funds for the federal entitlement grant programs administered by the City come from the following HUD programs:  Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG).

There are two separate surveys regarding the Consolidated Plan.  One determines priorities for affordable housing and homeless needs and can be accessed at http://apps.mesaaz.gov/Survey/Survey.aspx?SurveyID=462.  The other involves priorities for community development activities and can be accessed at http://apps.mesaaz.gov/Survey/Survey.aspx?SurveyID=461.

The City of Mesa Housing and Revitalization will be accepting public comments through April 30, 2009.  Mesa City Council is expected to give final approval to the funding recommendations at its May 4, 2009 meeting.
