There’s a New Jumping Off Point for Scottsdale ArtWalk

ARTScene Scottsdale overlooks waterfront, promotes local arts

Scottsdale, Ariz. – ARTScene Scottsdale is the brightly lit new jewel along the south bank at Scottsdale’s downtown Waterfront, just steps from new Stetson Plaza and its trolley bridge. The new-concept space in The Mix is a joint venture conceived by five leading galleries, each representing a different sector of the sprawling Scottsdale Arts District, as a way to connect dozens of galleries with other parts of exciting downtown.

“ARTScene Scottsdale is a new jumping off point for ArtWalk,” says ARTScene partner Kathy Duley of Duley-Jones Gallery. “It’s a great way to spread the word about all of the great art in the area, and to tell canal bank strollers that they’ve got a lot more cool places to see nearby. All they need to do is ‘ArtWalk the Line’ every Thursday night…or anytime.”

ARTScene Scottsdale’s open, airy exhibition space – with a fantastic view of the Waterfront, blue skies and Camelback Mountain behind – is currently showcasing the artwork of more than two dozen top artists. Just a few of the famous names are Merrill Mahaffey, Arthur Secunda, Tim Harding, Patricia Sherwood and Kathleen Hunter.

Creating the ARTScene concept were galleries from each captivating corner of the downtown Scottsdale arts district: Calvin Charles Gallery from Marshall Way; Cervini Haas Gallery, Fifth Avenue; Duley-Jones Gallery, Main Street; Textures and Robert Roman Gallery at artspace, Sixth Avenue; and THE LOFT Art Studios & Gallery on Fifth Avenue in the Kiva Center.

The gallery is being used as a veritable information center for the dozens of galleries that adorn downtown. In addition to promoting the partners’ own galleries, ARTScene provides info about galleries and current events throughout the Scottsdale Arts District. They even plan to present some special new events of their own…beginning with live jazz outside on Saturdays during May.

“ARTScene Scottsdale is yet another positive sign that not all is bleak during the economic meltdown and that Scottsdale is still alive and well with new ideas,” says Robin Meinhart of the City of Scottsdale. “Their spirit of collaboration adds a new dimension to the scope of downtown while connecting two of our major attractions – the Waterfront, which is new and buzzing, and the Arts District, for which we’ve long had an international reputation.”

The gallery is located at 7144 E. Stetson Drive in The Mix at SouthBridge, between Canal Restaurant and Estate House. ARTSCENE Scottsdale hours are Monday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 12-4pm. Special events and other information can be found on the website www.ArtSceneScottsdale.com.
