Tempe Honors Extraordinary Young People

YouthFest Courage Awards and Tempe Top Teens

Tempe, Arizona – For the 12th year, Tempe will honor its best and brightest young people at the YouthFest 2009 Courage Awards and Tempe Top Teens Recognition Dinner on Monday, April 13.

The Tempe City Council and the Tempe Diablos will recognize the teens at the dinner from 6-9 p.m. at The Buttes, A Marriott Resort, 2000 Westcourt Way.

The Courage Awards acknowledge the courage it can take for a young person to grow up in this challenging world. Ten young people will receive awards at this year’s dinner for displaying the courage to overcome physical limitations, health conditions or family situations.

In addition to the Courage Awards, 42 young people will be recognized as Tempe Top Teens for their exemplary efforts in academics, athletics, arts, music, citizenship, community service and demonstration of social conscience.

Mayor Hugh Hallman and the City Council will host the recognition dinner, which is attended by other city and state dignitaries, the recipients and their families, educators, community leaders, school board members and superintendents. Lori Jane Gliha of ABC 15 will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring the McKemy Middle School Quartet, followed by the recognition dinner at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Corona del Sol High School Steel Drum Band.
