“Earth Hour” to be Celebrated Worldwide – Phoenix Goes Green
Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon announced today that Phoenix, in celebration of Earth Hour 2009, is encouraging all residents to participate in this global event.
“For starters, we have launched ‘Green Phoenix’, a 17-point plan to make Phoenix the world’s first carbon-neutral city,” said Mayor Gordon.
To officially commemorate Earth Hour 2009, the mayor is encouraging all residents to turn out their lights at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28. “That’s a very visible way to participate, but there are other things we can also do,” Gordon noted. They include:
- Change at least one light bulb to a CFL
- Park your car or combine trips
- Turn your air or heat down or off
- Use public transportation (including light rail)
- Fill your recycling container
- Reduce your water consumption
“Those are just a few ideas”, Gordon noted, “but we have so many creative folks out there who I know have ideas of their own.” The mayor is encouraging everyone to share their ideas for Earth Hour 2009 by e-mailing him at mayor.gordon@phoenix.gov.
