Humana Guidance Center Offers Audiology Screening

MESA, AZ – A seminar on “Tips for Better Communications” for people with hearing loss and an audiology screening will be offered free of charge from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 1 at the Humana Guidance Center in Mesa, 5943 E. McKellips, Suite 106.
Following the seminar and hearing screening, which will be presented by Newport Audiology Centers, one of the nation’s leading providers of audiological and hearing-aid services, participants can have a photograph taken with the Easter Bunny.
“Life isn’t always easy for a person with hearing loss, and it is equally difficult for their family, friends and associates,” said Anna Ellis, audiologist with Newport Audiology Centers and presenter of the seminar. “The seminar will feature tips for both the hearing impaired and their loved ones, as well as tips for handling public situations when hearing may be difficult such as at a restaurant.”
The audiology screening is not a hearing test but a three- to five-minute screening of an individual’s hearing at two or three decibel levels. Using earphones and an audiometer, the Newport staff member will note a response given by the individual to various sounds and will make an appropriate referral if needed.
The Humana Guidance Center, which opened in Mesa in October 2008, builds on Humana’s goal of service accessibility by placing a customer advocate in areas convenient to members. The customer advocate will provide guidance and service to Humana members and prospective members who are evaluating their Medicare health plan options.
