10 week program offers successful strategies to help children improve their emotional and physical health
Glendale, AZ – The Child Obesity Center of Arizona presents ‘Children’s Weightloss Program’ – a workshop series for children and teens who are overweight. Children’s Weightloss Program was developed at the School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. Studies show that Children’s Weightloss Program is very effective teaching adolescents how to live healthy lives, both right away and in the long term. Newsweek Magazine said “Children’s Weightloss Program is one small step toward a healthier America.”
Children’s Weightloss Program is program specifically designed for adolescents to learn how to create an active, full life so that food, television and computer activities are less important. Participants will talk about their feelings in a group setting and learn how to improve their body image. This workshop series will also teach adolescents how to deal with feelings of guilt, fear, and frustration about their weight. Parents of each participant will also learn how to create positive changes in lifestyle and communication with their kids.
“Weight difficulties in children and adolescents are highly treatable when a family-based approach is used,” says Michaesha Dennis, Founder & Director of the Child Obesity Center of Arizona. “Studies have shown that if the treatment includes parents and focuses on the family’s lifestyle and communication, weight loss is maintained even at five and ten year follow up.”
The American Dietetic Association Journal says Children’s Weightloss Program is “A valuable contribution to treating young people’s weight problems.”
