Cardboard Boats coming to Tempe Town Lake

The 10th Annual Rotary River Rally featuring The Great Cardboard Boat Regatta® will be April 17-18, 2009 at Tempe Town Lake

Tempe, AZ – Cardboard boats are once again coming to Tempe Town Lake… full-sized boats made of nothing but corrugated cardboard, glue and paint; and crewed by up to 8 kids and/or adults paddling furiously around a 200 yard race course. Some sink. Some swim. Everyone has a great time!!!

Each year between 80 and 100 boats participate, built by youth groups, school classes, families, companies and individuals. Boats come in all shapes and sizes… canoes, paddlewheelers, floating islands, spaceships, racecars, alligators, rubber duckies… whatever folks can dream up!

Along with prizes for the fastest boats in each category, there are also trophies for the Best Dressed, Most Spirited, Most Creative and the Titanic Award for the most spectacular sinking ship! New this year, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event, we’ll also have an award for the best boat in the 10th anniversary theme – “Making Dreams Real”.

FREE to spectators, or better yet, build a boat! Registration Fee for boats ranges from $50 to $400. Instant Boat® kits are available by lottery the day of the race.

Proceeds support Childrens First Academy of Tempe, a school dedicated to serving the children of homeless families.

Don’t miss the 10th anniversary of the Rotary River Rally… Making Dreams Real!
