Famous People Who Come From Phoenix

Famous people involved in politics, directors, sports, actors and even musicians, all come from this region.
Is there something in the water? Not that we know of, however there are several famous people who come from the Phoenix area.
Directors
One of the most well-known directors, Steven Spielberg, was a native to Phoenix the Phoenix area. While a teenager still in Scottsdale, Spielberg started making small movies with his friends. He then moved on to direct some of the most notable films of all-time. One of his best-kept secrets is that he originated in the Phoenix area.
Singers
Alice Cooper, the band that is all originates from Phoenix. What is fascinating about this group is their onstage performances which have included live chickens and graphic visual displays onstage. They created a new type of music called Shock Rock.
Sports
Phoenix is known for producing great athletes as well. J.J. Yeley is one of NASCAR’s top racers. One of his earliest memories is riding his bike around the track as a kid. As an adult he has made the Phoenix International Speedway his home track.
Actors
With a Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, as a native to Phoenix, it is easy to see what makes this city so wonderful. Besides just being a great hero, Lynda was also noted for being an accomplished beauty queen, movie starlet, and game show participant.
Hugh Downs is one of the great news broadcasters of our time, and he also comes from this area. He is most remembered from his appearances on 20/20, and The Today Show. In 1985 he was certified by the Guinness book of World Records as having the record number of hours on network commercial television.
Politics
Phoenix is the home of several political figures some that are even in the news today. John McCain moved to Arizona after he retired from the military, married his wife, and began his career in politics. For McCain Phoenix was the birthplace of his political career, that is still rising to new heights.
Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was born outside Phoenix, but moved in the city and spent most of her adult life in Phoenix. During her career, she was known as being cold and humorless. Even though Sandra would never win a comedy contest; she was tough, fair, and a resident of Phoenix.
There is a lot of talent that comes out of Phoenix including authors, directors, singers, and athletes. One thing is for sure, there must be something in the water.
