Like the Beatles, who had their roots in the historic Cavern in Liverpool, Ringo McLennonSon was born two and a half years ago in a local Tempe bar where, as a yet to be named band, they played a concert in tribute to George Harrison to commemorate his passing. Ringo McLennonSon has been the headline act for the cities of Tempe, Casa Grande, Mesa, and Goodyear for municipal concert series and holiday events. Most recently Ringo McLennonSon was highlighted at the Phoenix Metro Light Rail Kick Off Celebration and Fiesta Bowl NYE’s Block Party, playing host to over 1000 party-goers. The band has also been featured on Channel 12’s Arizona MidDay show in June and November, on Good Morning Arizona in January 2009, in online publications, AZ Weekly Magazine, and in northern Arizona’s Arts and Entertainment Magazine, The Monsoon. In May, the band is scheduled to play the Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, The Spirit Room in Jerome, and a performance for the Mesa Arts Center.
The band features four musicians and two back up singers. Bandleader Tommy Anderson is a solo artist and also fronts Ringo’s alter ego, The Tommy Trio, a three piece band featuring Anderson’s original works. Additionally, Anderson has four self released albums through Groove Records. Bass player Paul “Pablo” Richards plays bass and performs vocals. Richards has played with popular reggae band, Grant Man and the Island Beat. Jimbo Gibbons, the “Ringo” of McLennonSon, plays drums and provides vocals as well. Son of Arizona celeb Sandy Gibbons, Jimbo has played with many local favorites such as Dr. Bombay and The Overtones. A world class percussionist, Gibbons is featured on Smoot Mahooty’s recently released album playing tabla and has a self released album through Groove records. Steve Golba, the George Martin of the group, rounds out the musicians with masterful keyboards and orchestration.
