NYPD General Manager Dedicates Charity Efforts for Family Member

PHOENIX – On behalf of his stepdaughter who has muscular dystrophy, Steve Schnirch, general manager of Ziegler’s New York Pizza Dept. (NYPD) on 20th St. and Camelback Rd., has taken his Shamrocks involvement up a notch by enlisting volunteers from the Phoenix Police Department to serve tables on Thursday, March 12, from 4 to 9 p.m. All tips collected that evening will be donated to the Shamrock’s Against Dystrophy, a month long campaign benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), headquartered in Tucson. All proceeds from the Shamrocks campaign remain in the Valley and directly benefits those affected by muscular dystrophy.

Kelly Mahoney, stepdaughter of Schnirch, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type-A, when she was two years old. Kelly is now 19. In addition to working with her step-dad at NYPD for the past four years, Kelly has dedicated efforts to the MDA as their National Goodwill Ambassador in 1994, and has been actively involved with the MDA ever since.

“Shamrocks Against Dystrophy is a great opportunity for the local community to contribute to such an incredible program for kids here in the Valley,” said Steve Schnirch, general manager, NYPD. “Our restaurants have been sponsors of the Shamrocks program for the past seven years. Our hope is that our ten locations combined, can raise $30,000 by the March 17 deadline.”

NYPD gives back to local police officers and firemen by offering these public servants 10 percent off their final bill with proof of employment. For more information please visit www.aznypdpizza.com or look for us on Twitter: @NYPD_Pizza.
