Singer Madeleine Peyroux to Perform Outdoor Concert

March 6, 2009 · Published By Editor

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) – Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present an outdoor concert with singer Madeleine Peyroux at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall Amphitheater on March 31. The performance is part of the Concerts Under the Stars Series sponsored by the Scottsdale League for the Arts.

Single tickets are available for $38 online at http://www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org/ or through the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts box office at (480) 994-ARTS (2787).

Born in Georgia, Peyroux grew up in Brooklyn and Southern California before moving to Paris at age 15, where she performed as a street musician and eventually toured throughout Europe as a member of the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band. Peyroux earned widespread acclaim in 1996 for her groundbreaking debut album, Dreamland, which drew comparisons to the smoky, melancholic vocals of the late Billie Holiday.

For her 2004 solo album, Careless Love, Peyroux reinterpreted classic songs by Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, among others, and in 2006, she released Half the Perfect World, an extremely personal collection of love songs featuring original compositions and covers by artists such as Cohen, Tom Waits, Fred Neil and Joni Mitchell.

Released this month, Peyroux’s latest album, Bare Bones, is both an extension of the currents of her previous efforts and a bold step into previously unexplored territory. Fluid and enthralling, it is Peyroux’s most personal work yet, offering a glimpse of a newfound and hard-earned lightheartedness.

Peyroux was named “Best International Jazz Artist” at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007.

The Steinway piano is available for this performance through the generosity of Steinway of Phoenix.
