City of Mesa Seeks Owners of Unclaimed World War II Medals

March 5, 2009 · Published By

Mesa, AZ - The City of Mesa Warehouse has received approximately 15 World War II medals, ribbons and stars that were among items confiscated last spring by Mesa Police.  The City is now trying to find the owner of the unclaimed items.  They include a World War II Victory Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart and Southeast Asia Service Medal.

“Most items that come to the Warehouse are for sale, but we do not want to sell the medals.  We want to give them back to the recipient or the family of the World War II veteran who earned these medals,” City of Mesa Surplus and Disposal Coordinator Sherri Power said.  Anyone with information regarding the owner of the medals should contact Sherri Power at (480) 644-2663.

The City of Mesa Warehouse, 7041 E. Adobe, Mesa, AZ, receives unclaimed items recovered by Mesa Police, such as bicycles and computer monitors, as well as surplus office equipment and supplies from various City departments. Surplus sales of many of these items are held every Tuesday and Thursday at the Warehouse from 8 a.m. to noon.
