Volunteers to Participate in “Top 2 Bottom” Cleanup in Mesa

February 18, 2009 · Published By Editor

Mesa, AZ It is a great excuse to get dirty and help the community.  More than 500 volunteers will participate in the first “Top 2 Bottom” event in Mesa Council District 1 Saturday, Feb. 28 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Mesa residents, neighborhood groups, church groups and City of Mesa staff have volunteered for the community effort on a variety of beautification and cleanup projects that morning, including wall and bridge painting, tire roundup, nuisance sign sweep, alley cleanups and graffiti wash.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for District 1 residents to pitch in and clean up west Mesa ‘top to bottom’ to make a difference in their neighborhoods,” Mesa District 1 Councilmember Dave Richins said.   ”Direct correlations can be made between neighborhood blight and crime.  Residents who want to make their neighborhoods safer must actively participate in displacing trash and graffiti, and replace it with a display of community pride.”

Volunteers will meet at 7 a.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot at Mesa Riverview, 1061 N. Dobson Road, where they will enjoy a light breakfast, receive their event T-shirt and head to their assigned service project. Several businesses are participating in Top 2 Bottom, including Wal-Mart, Chick-Fil-A, The Human Bean, Red Brick Pizza, Krispy Kreme and Renaldi’s Deli.

For more information on the Top 2 Bottom event, contact Mesa City Council Assistant Kathy Macdonald at (480) 644-5296.
