Celebrate Grand Opening of Reach 11 Sports Complex Addition

The City of Phoenix will celebrate the grand opening of the West section of the Reach 11 Sports Complex, 2405 E. Deer Valley Rd., from 3:30 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Funding for the latest phase of the project, which cost just under $10 million and took approximately 18 months to construct, came from 2006 bonds.

The new phase adds eight natural turf championship soccer fields to the existing nine lighted natural turf fields and one lighted synthetic field in the East complex, making Reach 11 the largest soccer facility in the state and one of the largest in the region.  The fields of the new West complex will be available for tournament play by reservation only.

In addition to its 18 championship fields, the complex boasts lighted parking for 2,200 vehicles, restrooms, maintenance facilities, a permanent concession facility, a playground and a shaded ramada picnic area.

“With the opening of the second phase, Reach 11 will continue to provide kids with an environment to participate in healthy and safe activities and a place to showcase the skills they have acquired,” said District 2 Councilwoman Peggy Neely. “Phase II is also ideal for hosting local, regional and national events, which in turn provides the city with a wonderful attraction that brings kids, parents, coaches and officials into the city, making a positive economic impact,” she added.

The complex already is a popular site for local, regional and national tournaments – the first phase was completely booked for an entire year after just one month of operation, and generated more than $1.4 million in sales tax revenue for Phoenix.

Activities in the first year included large events from U.S. Youth Soccer and the National Football League. The addition of Phase II will cement Phoenix’s standing as a premier tournament destination.

Reach 11 is a Bureau of Reclamation area that the city of Phoenix has developed for recreation as part of a land-use agreement.  More information about the sports complex is available by phone at 602-534-6268 or online at phoenix.gov/SPORTS/reachsprt.html.
