January 23, 2009 · Published By

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Desert Schools Federal Credit Union presented a check this week for $362,424 to the 1 Darn Cool School at Phoenix Children’s Hospital — a $22,000 increase over last year’s donation. Desert Schools is the top credit union in fundraising for the hospital and in 2008 raised more money for Credit Unions for Kids than any credit union in the nation.

Desert Schools’ senior vice president Ron Amstutz said, “Year after year, our members and employees see the impact their donations make locally and have shown remarkable generosity, even in today’s difficult economy.” Desert Schools, Arizona’s largest credit union, has contributed more than $1.6 million to Phoenix Children’s Hospital since 1998.

Funds are raised through a variety of events including branch change drives, a bowl-a-thon, employee barbecue and the 2008 CMN Golf Tournament which raised $220,000 for the hospital-one of the largest amounts raised in a single day for a credit union.
