Hyperbaric Oxygen and Wound Healing

Chandler Regional Medical Center’s Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center Receives Accreditation with Distinction From The Undersea And Hyperbaric Medical Society

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Chandler Regional Medical Center, a member of Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), has received accreditation with distinction from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).

Chandler Regional Medical Center is the ONLY hospital in Arizona, and one of 25 in the nation, to receive this honor, which signifies the highest quality of hyperbaric medical care.

Since 2001, the UHMS has had a clinical hyperbaric medicine facility accreditation program. Accredited facilities must demonstrate their commitment to patient care, as well as facility safety, by voluntarily participating in this program. When a hyperbaric oxygen center is invited to participate in the accreditation survey process, the UHMS sends a team of experts to the facility to examine staffing and training, equipment installation, operation and maintenance, facility and patient safety, and standards of care.

“Continuing to participate in this voluntary process reaffirms our commitment to provide the community with the highest quality wound care available,” said Brian Paterick, M.D., medical director of the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center. “For referring physicians, it means we are available when they have patients with chronic, slow healing wounds. For patients, it means our dedicated team of medical professionals is able to provide consultations and treatment while focusing on patient safety and satisfaction.”

Hyperbaric oxygen chambers surround a patient with 100 percent oxygen at a higher than normal atmospheric pressure, similar to what a deep sea diver experiences. Sessions, or dives, last anywhere from two to two-and-a-half hours. Each session increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the patient’s blood, allowing it to go directly to the wound and stimulate healing.

The team at Chandler Regional Medical Center continues to enhance patient care by reducing the time it takes to heal a wound. The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center also offers hospital-based outpatient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as disease management and diabetes care.

The center is located at 1875 West Frye Rd. in Chandler. For more information, or to schedule a tour, please call 480.728.3701 or visit http://www.chandlerregional.org/.
