Television Show Celebrates the Creative Process

January 12, 2009 · Published By Editor

All human beings have language, a sense of humor, and give names to things, people, and places–yet there is nearly infinite variety in how we express ourselves, in what we find funny, and what names mean to us. This month, Inside Creative Minds features Dr. Don L.F. Nilsen and Dr. Alleen Pace Nilsen, linguists at ASU who for over 30 years have been exuberantly sharing with their students  the joys of language and who specialize in studying humor, naming, and young adult literature. The Nilsens are not only scholars in the same field (but with their own specialties) and co-authors,  but have been also happily married for fifty years.  They are scholars whose love of learning and joy in teaching inspires their students and everyone around them. “What a treat to have both professors in the same room,” says ICM’s host, Tray Goodman. “They made me want to go back to class.  Don’t judge this show by its topic–you won’t want to ditch.”

Inside Creative Minds is an in-depth, half-hour TV show that delves into the creative minds here in the Valley of the Sun – exploring who they are, what they do and why they do it. The goal of the show is to showcase the work, knowledge, passion, and talent of creative and artistic people throughout the Valley of the Sun and connect viewers with our growing, vibrant culture. Inside Creative Minds features all types of creative pursuits, from dance to tattoos, filmmaking to cooking, architecture to sculpture and so on.

The show airs on Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale, Litchfield Park, Queen Creek, and Peoria Channel 11 (Cox), ASUtv (Valleywide on Cox 116 and Qwest 138), , KNOW 99 (Cox channel 99 and Qwest channel 20), and Sun Devil Television (ASU Tempe campus).
