The length of employment is from Sept. 1, 2009 to Aug. 31, 2010, with an option to renew the contract for an additional year at the request of the Himeji City Board of Education.
The work schedule is similar to the U.S., with a similar number of school holidays. The school day is generally from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with weekends usually free.
Teachers are required to assist with school and community center English lesson plans for local residents during the summer, winter and spring vacations.
Teachers will be paid a monthly salary and have airfare paid to and from Japan. Housing is available in new western-style apartments and enrollment in a national health insurance program is offered at reasonable rates.
