Join Changing Hands bookstore for a screening of the film documentary Paperback Dreams
6pm January 9, 2009
In the 1960s, independent bookstores helped to start a cultural revolution, making literature accessible to the masses. As time progressed, however, competition from big chains and the Internet made it virtually impossible for small booksellers to stay afloat.
Paperback Dreams follows Andy Ross, owner of Cody’s Books, and Clark Kepler, owner of Kepler’s Books, over the course of two tumultuous years in the book business.
The film takes an in-depth look at how these stores benefit society, and how communities suffer when they are forced to close their doors.
After the 1-hour screening, meet the owners of Changing Hands who will answer questions about the future of independent bookstores in our community.
