Off-Broadway Hit “Mother Load” Opens at Theater 4301

December 30, 2008 · Published By Editor

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) – Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show Mother Load from Jan. 22-25 at Theater 4301 in downtown Scottsdale.

Single tickets are available for $38 through the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ Web site at http://www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org/ or the box office at (480) 994-ARTS (2787).

Written by Amy Wilson and starring Betsy Stover, Mother Load mixes comedy with true confessions from the front lines of motherhood. Based on Wilson’s own experience as the mother of three children under five, this one-woman show has audiences lining up from coast to coast for a night of laughs about everything from prenatal yoga and preschool applications to organic baby food and the perils of “mommy and me” classes. This laugh-out-loud show is a wickedly funny exposé of the fruitless and ever-challenging quest to be the “perfect” mom.

Critics have described Mother Load as “flawless,” “hysterical” and “a must-see,” and The New York Times noted, “It’s like Annie Hall wearing a nursing bra!”

Mother Load creator Amy Wilson appeared on television as a series regular on the sitcoms Norm (ABC) with Norm MacDonald, and Daddio (NBC) with Michael Chiklis and had a recurring role on Felicity. She has also appeared on Ed, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Deadline, Boston Common and All My Children. Her film credits include Kinsey, Kissing Jessica Stein, Keeping the Faith and Ira and Abby, and she also performed on Broadway in the Tony-Award-winning play The Last Night of Ballyhoo. Wilson is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale University.

Actress and comedian Betsy Stover grew up in Minneapolis, Minn., the child of a Lutheran minister and an opera singer, and attended New York University and studied at Tisch’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School. She has starred in numerous radio and television commercials and is a regular sketch performer on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Stover has also appeared on MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and at Caroline’s Comedy Club on Broadway. A longtime member of New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, she has written, performed and directed countless sketch and improv comedy shows over the last decade and taught improv comedy there for the past seven years.
