Walking in a Winter Wonderland Holiday Extravaganza
December 11, 2008 · Published By Editor
Tucson, AZ – ‘Tis the season for Tucson! Visit JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa this holiday season and get ready to walk in a winter wonderland with its annual holiday season festivities. The resort will transform into a winter palace this December, complete with ice, sledding, carolers, a 30 foot Christmas tree, carriage rides and, of course, Santa.
This year, Starr Pass’ holiday extravaganza will bring new meaning to the holly jolly season in the desert. A bevy of fun and excitement is just around the corner, as kids ready themselves for Santa’s arrival. On December 20, the resort is highlighting sledding…Starr Pass style. Sledding will be the resort’s feature event, encouraging children, adults, friends and families to take ride down Starr Circle Hill at the resort’s main entrance. The incredible sled run will require over 50 tons of ice to construct!
JW Marriott Starr Pass is pulling out all the stops with its holiday décor. The resort’s holiday decoration collection will include Santa and other seasonal scenes in the hotel lobby as well as holiday decorations throughout all public resort spaces, including a 30 foot Christmas tree that, when lighted, will be able to be seen for miles. The decorations, nearly a quarter of a million dollars in cost, will be completed and on display by December 6, just in time for the holidays!
Christmas would not be Christmas without an appearance from jolly ol’ Santa! For those staying at the resort on Friday night, December 19, Santa will literally fall from the sky for all the good little girls and boys! Not to be missed! For your families delight, Santa and his elves are set to arrive by helicopter at 8:30 p.m. sharp. Of course, Santa will take photos with all younger guests December 19 and 20!
Other great holiday happenings include complimentary hot chocolate on weekends throughout December; performances by carolers from local school choirs on December 19 in public areas and restaurants, and chestnut roasting on December 19, 20 and 21.

About JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa
As the only resort in Southern Arizona to be named to the Travel + Leisure 2008 World’s Best Hotels Top 500 List, Starr Pass draws on the beauty of its mountainous location. The resort incorporates the natural desert as its landscape design theme. With 575 spacious guestrooms, 88,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, five restaurants, a 20,000 sq. ft. spa, four separate pools, a lazy river and water slide, an Arnold Palmer Signature golf facility and 888 underground and covered parking spaces, the resort boasts of being not only the largest resort in southern Arizona, but also the only true eco-resort in Tucson. Since opening in 2005, the resort has donated over 250 acres of land to preservations in Tucson Mountain Park. This eco theme extends to its restaurants, which serve only 100% line caught fish; its Hashani Spa, which uses natural desert plant oils; recycling programs; and direct access to the nature trails of Tucson Mountain Park. The resort continues to develop new and successful “green” initiatives. To quote Bill Marriott, “you can build all types of amenities but it would be impossible to duplicate what Starr Pass has, the Tucson Mountain Park.” The JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa is located at 3800 W. Starr Pass and can be reached directly by calling (520) 792-3500. Please visit http://www.jwmarriottstarrpass.com/.
