The City of Mesa will be hosting one of four large parties in conjunction with the Metro Light Rail Grand Opening Celebration, which will take place on Dec. 27. “It All Starts Here”  presented by SRP and the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mesa’s Sycamore Transit Center, located at Sycamore and Main St.  It is estimated that  more than 30,000 people will attend.

As part of this historic event, a classic car show is being planned. Car enthusiasts throughout the state are invited to participate and showcase their vehicles.

Event attendees will be asked to vote for their favorite vehicle, and a cash prize for the People’s Choice Award will be announced at the conclusion of the event.  All car show registrants will receive a certificate of appreciation.

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • “People’s Choice”  First Place $ 500
  • “People’s Choice”  Second Place $ 250
  • “People’s Choice”  Third Place $ 100
  • Oldest Car in the show $ 100

There is no fee to display a vehicle, but those interested must register in advance, by Dec. 12.  Set-up will start at 8 a.m. and cars are asked to be in place by 9:30 a.m.  Even though the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., cars will not be obligated to stay the entire time.
