Bailout Boycott: You Still Get to Vote
As you know far too well, our elected representatives voted in favor of providing a $700,000,000,000 bailout for failing institutions – banks, insurance companies and now potentially auto makers. Did your representatives and Senators vote your desires – or take the position that their information was better than yours, so they voted their conscience?
The debate regarding the pros and cons of the bailout are endless. I won’t attempt to persuade you that the bailout is good or bad for America. I do believe, however, that the management of companies looking for handouts must be denied our continued patronage.
We have observed the rise of big box retailers and the demise of main street retailers in our lifetime. We are now witnessing a number of the big boys roll up their tents (Circuit City, Mervyn’s, etc.). The opportunity for small retailers to reclaim their market has never been better.
Big companies are like the Titanic, they can’t turn fast enough to avoid the economic iceberg. Small companies can change their business instantly. You can change your business in a long weekend by updating your website. What are you waiting for?
We’re now faced with the guilt trip of losing 3 million jobs if we allow the Big 3 auto makers to fail. I don’t know about you, but I am boycotting the bailout. If GM, Chrysler or Ford receive bailout money, I will never purchase another vehicle from them again. I probably wasn’t going to anyhow, but that just fortifies my position.
Is failing to support American made cars a bad thing? Seth Godin doesn’t think so. Read what he says in his recent post.
What to Do About Detroit
Our government representatives voted for the bailout. They may continue to steal from your future, your children’s future and your grandchildren’s future by increasing the federal deficit. Fortunately, you still have a vote, because you decide who gets your hard earned dollars.
