A Hopeful State of Mind

November 18, 2008 · Published By

What comes topside for me about the state of affairs in the USA and the world at-large is what a great opportunity we all have to be a part of the Great Reconstruction of our way of life. Not only do I want to see an equitable redistribution of the tax load rather than off-shore tax havens for the rich, but I want to see a supreme effort to see that all of us have gainful employment, enough to eat and shelter from the heat or cold. What the current crisis says to me is that we have all been living in la-la land about the value of everything: the price of a share of stock, how much our houses are worth and an unfair burden for the man in the middle, euphemistically referred to as the middle class. Let’s make sure that we have a wider and more reasonable middle that we have not had for more than fifty years.

The McMansion consciousness infected many of us to the point that we bought what we could not afford. Renters by the millions jumped at the sub-prime scam without reading the fine print and today rather than renting a house they can afford, they are living with relatives, or worse, in tents and their cars. Media and movies enhanced this pandering for the luxe life by using snake oil salesmen pitches in infomercials; i.e., ‘come and get it’, and “it” turned out to be the worst con perpetrated since the Great Depression.

People ask me what is going to happen. Is it the end of the world?

Does the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012 spell doom and Armageddon?

Is the Apocalypse upon us? The answer is no, no and no. We are going to shift how we think and how we see ourselves in the “unreal” world (for a man like me that would be the earth; the “real” world is “there” somewhere-from whence we came and to which we return at death). I counsel for my coins and the rich as well as the less well- heeled are beginning to weigh in with what is going on with them: how they think, what they value and how much the never-ending world is beginning to make more sense. It better be if we are to survive with any quality of life.

Astrology tells us that we must rebuild ‘brick by brick and stone by stone’ or else we will not want to live. Pluto will go into Capricorn in a few days until 2023-Capricorn says, “If you want to eat, pick up the hoe; shelter, build it slowly; if you want to be happy in the world ask those less fortunate, “What can I do for you?”
