Sign up to volunteer at light rail grand opening in Mesa

Volunteers are needed for “It All Starts Here” Saturday, Dec. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of light rail in Mesa.

The City of Mesa continues to plan grand opening activities at the Sycamore Transit Center, Main Street and Sycamore during the opening of the METRO light rail system. Volunteers are needed that day for a variety of activities, including registration/check-in, event set up/tear down/clean up, supervising parking facilities and literature distribution. Volunteers must be 18 years of age unless accompanied by an adult.  All volunteers will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Participants can volunteer for a three hour shift between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.  Orientation sessions will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the City Utilities Building, 640 N. Mesa Drive or Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 201, 360 E. 1st St.

On December 27, 12 years of planning, research, construction and development will culminate as the first METRO light rail trains leave their stations, marking a new era in public transportation for the Valley.
