Runners, walkers ‘Dash’ for scholarships

MESA, Ariz. – The Dauntless Drumstix Dash is back. After a brief hiatus, Arizona State University at the Polytechnic campus is holding its annual 5K road race, a 2-mile fun walk, and a half mile kids’ fun run held Nov. 22, 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Student Union on the campus in Mesa.
Registration for the 10th annual event begins at 6:30 a.m., with the kids’ fun run starting at 8 a.m., followed by the 2-mile fun walk at 8:20 a.m., and then the timed 5K road race at 8:30 a.m.
The School of Educational Innovation and Teacher Preparation will host a supervised children’s activity hour enabling parents to partake in either the fun walk or 5K race.
Participants receive t-shirts, all kids in the fun run receive medallions, and trophies are given to age division winners of the 5K race. In addition to this, there will be grilled hot dogs, Indian fry bread, fruit and water.

All proceeds of the Dash go to the Polytechnic University Staff Council’s Scholarship fund which provides scholarships to Polytechnic students. The race has helped raise approximately $8,000 since its inception in 1999.
In addition, participants are asked to bring canned food products for the Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley/Williams Campus Branch.
