Research Breakfast Forum Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Arizona State University featuring the Adaptive Intelligent Materials and Systems (AIMS) Center (http://aims.asu.edu).
The event includes a complimentary continental breakfast and luncheon (sponsored by the AIMS Center).
Time: Wednesday, November 12, 2008; 7:30 – 11:30 am; followed by luncheon and tour
Place: Memorial Union (MU), Room 202 (Mohave), ASU Tempe campus
The AIMS-sponsored luncheon will feature two guest speakers: Charles Farrar, from Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Mark Derriso, from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Both speakers are experts in the area of structural health monitoring. Following the luncheon, participants will tour the AIMS Center Laboratories (scheduled to start at 2 p.m.).
The Adaptive Intelligent Materials and Systems (AIMS) Center brings together researchers with backgrounds in smart materials and adaptive systems, solid and structural mechanics, computational mechanics, multidisciplinary optimization, signal processing, neuroscience, intelligent design and data mining, and computational statistics to develop a solid foundation in the area of integrated intelligent system design with applications that cut across various disciplines.
Its multidisciplinary focus strives to develop unified theoretical foundations for designing intelligent systems that draw from the tremendous advances made across individual disciplines in the last decade. Current research thrusts include:
Structural Health Monitoring and Prognosis Signal Processing for Adaptive Materials and Systems Damage in Metallic Materials Intelligent Data Mining Smart Materials for Sensors and Actuators Multifunctional Materials
