Tempe light rail volunteers to celebrate trains and tracks

October 24, 2008 · Published By Administrator

Tempe, Arizona – Be part of a historic event by volunteering for light rail grand opening festivities in Tempe!  On Saturday, Dec. 27, the first 20 miles of light rail in the Valley will be open and ready for riders to board. Residents will be celebrating this historic event at different stops as they ride the train for free through Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

Tempe’s biggest celebration will take place around the City’s new Transportation Center at Fifth Street and College Avenue, and will include food, entertainment and fireworks.

Volunteers will be needed to serve in the children’s activity and information booths and assist with set-up and take down. Shifts are available between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.  Volunteers will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt to wear at the event and keep as their souvenir of this special day.   For more information and to volunteer, call the City of Tempe volunteer office at 480-350-5190.
