Dancing with the Stars Arizona Swings into Action 1940’s Style

October 16, 2008 · Published By Editor

Phoenix, AZ – You’re invited to take a sentimental journey complete with the 1940’s Big Band sound, a torch singer and fantastic ballroom dance performances as the Arizona Kidney Foundation presents the third annual production of Dancing with the Stars Arizona on March 6, 2009 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix. Sponsorship opportunities are available in order to raise funds to help dialysis and organ transplant patients as well as promote a new “Know Your GFR” public kidney health awareness program.

Event Co-chairs Libby Cohen, Jan Clayton and Patsy Livi recently hosted a ‘kick-off’ meeting at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa to bring dancers and committees together to discuss plans for another exciting and innovative event. Celebrity Star Dancers from our community will perform with professional instructors from the Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Arizona to compete for audience votes, judges’ scores and winner’s trophies. A sealed bid auction will also be held and attendees will be able to enjoy “floor time” while they dance to hits from the 1940’s performed by The Two O’Clock Jump Swing Band.

Craig Jackson has been named this year’s Honorary Chair.  Linda Pope is Immediate Past Chair. Chairmen Emeritus are Jack Clifford and his late wife Marguerite, and Glenna Jones Shapiro, past AKF CEO.

“As Time Goes By is not only a favorite 1940’s song but a great introduction into our third year presenting Dancing With The Stars Arizona,” explains Jamie Craig Dove, Development Director of the Arizona Kidney Foundation.  ”Each year we strive to bring something new and original to the event and this year’s theme enables us to do just that. If you choose to support only one event in 2009, this is the one!”

For more information about event ticket sales or vote purchases, contact the Arizona Kidney Foundation at 602-840-1644. AKF is located at 4203 E. Indian School Road, Suite 140 in Phoenix. The Arizona Kidney Foundation is the statewide health agency alerting the community to the importance of good kidney health and the need to monitor kidney function, providing direct patient aid to Arizonans suffering from Kidney failure and championing the miracle of organ donation. AKF receives support for this mission from a generous and caring public and through special charity events like Dancing with the Stars Arizona 2009.
