Volunteer tutors needed for Tempe early literacy program

Tempe, Arizona – Experience Corps Tempe program is looking for volunteer tutors who want to make a difference in children’s lives.
A free informational breakfast session will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m., at the Tempe Public Library Connections Café, 3500 S. Rural Rd. Opportunities will be showcased while prospective volunteers learn about the literacy program.
Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with struggling students in kindergarten through third grade to improve reading skills. Volunteers will be provided with excellent training and support services. No special skills are needed.
The average commitment is four hours a week throughout the school year or at minimum a semester. There are also a few stipend positions available to adults ages 55+. The average weekly commitment for stipend volunteers is 10 hours and the stipend amount is approximately $160 per month.
Experience Corps is a nationally recognized literacy program hosted by the City of Tempe Social Services division in partnership with the Tempe Elementary School District. More information is available at http://www.experiencecorps.org/cities/tempe/.
