Krispy Kreme Celebrates Three New Neighborhood Store Openings With “Glazed Treasure Hunt”

September 26, 2008 · Published By Editor

PHOENIX – Krispy Kremes aren’t just a doughnut – they’re a glazed treasure! And to celebrate the opening of three new Krispy Kreme stores, Krispy Kreme Arizona is inviting customers to go on a “Glazed Treasure Hunt” that combines its treasured doughnuts with the popular family activity of geocaching.

Geocaching, or treasure hunting with GPS units, has become increasingly popular as a family activity in recent years. In fact, it is estimated that there are more than 800,000 caches hidden across the world and registered on various geocaching Web sites.

“We’re a family-friendly destination that’s easy on the wallet and heavy on the fun, so what better way to celebrate our neighborhood store openings than with a fun-for-the-whole-family activity like geocaching,” said Dan Brinton, franchise partner of Krispy Kreme Arizona.

The Glazed Treasure Hunt will kick off at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 when each of the three new neighborhood stores officially opens to the public. The three store locations are:

620 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix, AZ 85004 (lobby and drive thru)

2747 E Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016 (lobby)

12629 N Paradise Village Parkway West, Phoenix, AZ 85032 (double drive thru and walk-up)

In preparation of the new neighborhood stores’ grand openings, Krispy Kreme will hide 20 geocaches across Arizona and reveal the GPS coordinates in-store grand opening day. The first 20 customers per store (some lobby and some drive thru depending on the store) will receive a GPS unit and be the first to receive coordinates and a 15 minute head start to search for the Krispy Kreme geocaches hidden somewhere in Arizona. All customers will be invited to seek out the treasure for special grand opening prizes and the geocaches will remain in place and regularly be replenished by Krispy Kreme to yield glazed treasure for the foreseeable future.

Those less interested in geocaching will still take home “glazed treasure” grand opening day as Krispy Kreme will be distributing logo’d giveaways throughout the day. In-store grand opening activities include:

- In addition to the GPS unit, the first 20 customers per store receive a “Glazed Treasure” T-shirt, a road trip kit, and a “Glazed Treasure Hunt” loyalty card

- 100 drive-thru customers at each the Roosevelt and Paradise Village stores will receive a license plate cover and a dozen doughnuts a month for a year All opening day guests (and all Krispy Kreme Mesa guests!) receive a “Glazed Treasure” loyalty card featuring the special offer of buy one get one dozen FREE per visit for up to 10 visits during the month of October

- Kids get to select a prize from an over-sized Glazed Treasure Hunt cache located in each new store The first 200 customers per store will each receive a FREE limited edition “Glazed Treasure Hunt 2008″ Krispy Kreme T-shirt and every customer will receive a free fresh Original Glazed.

And, in an effort to keep treasure hunting beautiful, 10 percent of each dozen doughnuts sold grand opening week will benefit Keep Phoenix Beautiful – an organization working in Phoenix for more than 20 years to promote the preservation and protection of the environment. With the help of thousands of volunteers annually, Keep Phoenix Beautiful dedicates its efforts to litter reduction, beautification and community improvement activities.

“While I’ve always been a fan of their doughnuts, Krispy Kreme is truly making its mark as a community treasure with this program,” said Tom Waldeck, executive director of Keep Phoenix Beautiful.

With its new store openings, Krispy Kreme Arizona will also be kicking off a new “Not-For-Profit Night” at its locations whereby one night each month is dedicated as a fundraiser for a community not-for-profit organization, furthering its community support. During each “Not-For-Profit Night,” Krispy Kreme will help raise the dough by donating 25 percent of all dozen Original Glazed Doughnut sales to the organization. Each month will feature a different community not-for-profit organization to help as many organizations as possible throughout the year.

Each new Krispy Kreme location will have doughnuts delivered fresh multiple times throughout the day from the Mesa store. The new Krispy Kreme locations will offer 15 varieties of doughnuts, including Krispy Kreme’s signature Original Glazed doughnut. The stores also will offer Krispy Kreme’s Signature Coffee line that features two drip coffees – Smooth and Robust Decaf-all made from high-quality coffee beans roasted by Krispy Kreme’s own Roastmaster to exact specifications. The stores will also offer Krispy Kreme Chillers as well as Shamrock Farms mmmmilk.

Krispy Kreme stores will be open seven days a week. The Roosevelt and Indian School stores will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Paradise Village store and existing Mesa store located at 6626 E. Superstition Springs Blvd, Mesa, AZ 85206 will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Since 1937, Krispy Kreme has been the original glazed doughnut and the doughnut of choice among consumers. For true doughnut lovers, Krispy Kremes aren’t just a doughnut – they’re a tasty treasure! For more information about Krispy Kreme’s grand openings, call 480-325-6789.
