Tips for Improving Leg Health

September 23, 2008 · Published By

Have you ever considered the health of your legs? Statistics show not enough of us are. It’s estimated that more than 40 million Americans suffer from varicose veins and up to two million Americans annually suffer the affects of DVT, Deep Vein Thrombosis, a potentially fatal blood clot that forms in the deep vein system of the lower leg.

Vein problems can progressively worsen over time and can affect a person’s health and well being for the rest of their life. While those suffering with poor circulation either independently or related to diabetes or other ailments are very much at risk – recent science is indicating that those in better than average health are at great risk.

Fortunately there are measures you can take to counteract the effect of varicose veins, leg swelling, poor or reduced leg vein circulation, DVT and just plain tired and aching legs.  One easy and inexpensive step is to wear compression hosiery, which are specially designed to support veins and increase circulation in legs. Throughout the day the compression they provide prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, thereby helping overall circulation. If you are going to wear socks or stockings anyway, why not wear something that offers the added benefit of compression?

Graduated compression products are available in three levels of pressure to address varying health needs  Light, to decrease pain, heaviness and fatigue in lower legs; Moderate, for advanced foot and leg pain and prevention of DVT; and Firm for chronic leg pain and advanced maladies.

What’s more, the compression products available today are not the socks “grandma wears.”  New technology has made it possible to offer socks and stockings that are comfortable and cool with a soft and rich looking exterior.

So why not start today, and give yourself a leg up on health.
