SRP Donates Funds for Adopt-a-Pool-Fence Program

Program Goal is to Provide Fences for Families in Need

SRP has contributed $21,500 to the Valley of the Sun United Way and United Phoenix Firefighters Association’s Adopt-a–Pool-Fence program. The program provides families with young children throughout Maricopa County with a donated pool fence, offering a physical barrier between their children and their backyard swimming pools.

The lack of pool fences continues to be a factor in the number of deaths or impairment of young children throughout the community. To date, the program has installed more than 350 fences in Maricopa County.

SRP Safety Connection will work with Valley of the Sun United Way and the United Phoenix Firefighters Association to provide drowning-prevention materials to families who receive a fence through the program.

In addition, more than 200 SRP meter readers and field customer service agents responding to calls for utility repairs will post a note if they see a home without a pool fence informing the homeowner that he or she may be eligible for a donated pool fence.

Families who do not have a pool fence and are in financial need are asked to complete an application by visiting www.saverkids.org or calling (602) 631-4843. Applicants must meet criteria including: a child 6 years of age or younger must be living in the home, the home must be owner-occupied, families must demonstrate financial need and special circumstances will be considered.

The SRP Safety Connection works with Valley fire departments, cities and organizations to promote safety in all aspects of water and electricity and reaches more than 250,000 people a year through educational materials and presentations. Information: www.srpnet.com/watersafety.
