Special Storm Damage Collection Begins This Weekend

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 6, the Phoenix Public Works Department will conduct a special bulk trash collection in the areas hardest hit by recent storms. City collection crews are limited to these areas (see map) in order to maintain existing scheduled bulk trash service to customers receiving normally scheduled collection.

The areas receiving special collection are:

• I-17 to the SR51, from Van Buren Street north to Maryland Avenue
• Shea Boulevard north to Thunderbird Road (also including the area south of Shea to the Mountain Preserve), from 36th Street east to Tatum Boulevard
• Seventh Avenue to 12^th Street, from Maryland Avenue north to Cactus Road

Normal bulk trash guidelines apply:

• Residential green waste only – tree, brush, and other vegetation waste
• Vegetation must be less than 4 feet long, 12 inches in diameter, except for palm fronds
• Small amounts of vegetation should be bagged and tied
• No commercial/business waste
• Place material 5 feet or more from utility poles, fences, cable boxes, water meters, etc.
• Material must be placed on the front of their property (not on street or sidewalk), or in the alley in the normal placement location

Residential customers outside the special collection area can:

• Cut up material and place in regular green garbage container
• For free, on weekends, take material to a city transfer station, 27^th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road or I-17 and Dixileta Drive. Transfer stations are open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 27^th Avenue transfer station is open on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the I-17 and Dixileta Drive transfer station is open Saturdays and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents should cover their loads and bring a city water bill and driver’s license for proof of residency.
