Tempe Councilmember to receive leadership award

Tempe, Ariz. – Tempe City Councilmember Ben Arredondo will be recognized Friday for his longtime service to the community. Arredondo will be presented with a Special Recognition Award at Valle del Sol’s 18th Annual Profiles of Success Hispanic Leadership Awards Celebration on Friday, Sept. 5, at noon at the Phoenix Convention Center South Ballroom, 111 N. Third St., at Third and Jefferson streets.
For more than 30 years, Arredondo has passionately worked to be a voice for the disadvantaged and underrepresented. His efforts have focused especially on the Hispanic community, supporting initiatives for Latino youth and backing improvements for Mexican nationals. He has also played a fundamental role in celebrating the positive impacts of Tempe’s Hispanic population by establishing an annual cultural celebration called Tempe Tardeada.
A retired high school teacher and former member of the Tempe Elementary School District Governing Board and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Arredondo is known for his service in education and government. He currently is serving his fourth, four-year term on the Tempe City Council, where he devotes his efforts to improving the quality of life of Tempe residents.
