Andrea Moreno, customer service trainer for Salt River Project, has been named by the mayor and City Council as chairwoman of the Phoenix Women’s Commission.

She has been a member of the Phoenix Women’s Commission for more than three years, most recently as vice chairwoman. Moreno also has chaired the International Women’s Day Program Committee for the last two years, which has raised approximately $430,000 for educational scholarships.

“The Phoenix Women’s Commission uses its leadership skills and expertise to focus on the special challenges that face women,” said Moreno. “Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for women and girls in our community.”

Moreno, a Valley native, is chairwoman of ¡Hablamos SRP!, Salt River Project’s Hispanic Employee Interest Network. She is an adjunct faculty member of Rio Salado College and serves on its advisory committee for Utilities Customer Service Certification on behalf of SRP.

She has a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in marketing and is a graduate of Valle Del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute-West and the Chicanos Por La Causa Career Development Institute.

The Phoenix Women’s Commission, an 18-member board, was created by resolution in 1975 to advise the mayor and City Council on matters concerning women.

The commission provides advocacy, consultation and support on economic, political and social issues facing women of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds. It also coordinates various community activities and special projects including the upcoming Women’s Economic Forum on Oct. 29 and the 18th annual International Women’s Day Celebration Luncheon scheduled for March 4, 2009.
