Arizona Companies ‘Get Fit’ for a Cause at 2009 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

Employees at several Valley companies are about to start training for the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & 1/2 Marathon as they prepare to participate in the third annual “Get Fit Challenge“, a competition during the RNR marathon where companies battle it out to take home bragging rights-and a “Gold Record”- for bringing the most participants to the starting line. The competition is designed to promote health, fitness and camaraderie in the workplace.
This year, companies have yet another reason to participate in the challenge.
Marathon organizers have added an optional “Charity Challenge” to the competition which gives companies the option to run for a charity of their choice. Combining fitness and philanthropy is a growing trend, triggering companies like Phoenix-based Ewing Irrigation Products to run for a cause.
Ewing has been participating in the Get Fit Challenge since its inception in 2007. After winning the Get Fit Challenge (large company division) the past two years, Ewing will be tackling the charity challenge and raising money for Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
On Wednesday, August 20, corporations interested in participating in the 2009 Get Fit Challenge can visit the P.F. Chang’s China Bistro at the Scottsdale Waterfront at 5 p.m. to learn more about the competition and the optional charity challenge.
