From Scrap to Art; Creative Artist Recycles Material

August 11, 2008 · Published By

Gold Canyon, ARIZONA – Mike Shubic of Shubic Landscape Art often uses scrap materials to create wonderful works of art. Mr. Shubic’s organic creativity is quite remarkable, often using metal or steel in his creations, no scrap goes unused.

“When I begin the creative process I go about it in one of two ways, either I come up with an idea and then locate the materials-or, I acquire and/or use existing scrap materials to create an art piece from a more organic approach. For example, I have a friend working on a job site at which they were cutting down a couple of light poles, which ultimately would have ended up in the landfill-my buddy asked me if I could use the scrap, and of course I said yes. It’s really a win-win situation, because had I needed to buy the same steel pipe it would have cost me hundreds of dollars-in addition to not having to pay that money, I’m able to keep the scrap from being wasted. Instead, the pipe was use for the stems of my PsychShrooms and birdbaths,” says Shubic.

Additionally, Mr. Shubic has come up with several creative uses for old plow discs (the ones farmers use with their tractors), from bird baths to contemporary planters to some psychedelic looking steel mushrooms. Unlike the cheap looking art you often see at a swap meet, Mr. Shubic’s work and use of materials is truly unique and high quality. He’s even started using solar powered water pumps for birdbaths and water features…which again, is a win-win that allows customers the option to put their sculptures nearly anywhere they wish while not being held hostage to an electrical outlet. In addition, using the low voltage pump is safer, “green,” and free to operate.

Mr. Shubic’s website shows off his talent with an array of different kinds of work, from water features, sculptures, bird baths to unique furniture and planters. He says that his mind never stops working; he keeps a journal with crude sketches of ideas for those clients that may allow him the creative freedom to create something truly unique just for their needs and desires.

Shubic is available for private consultations and art commissions and can be reached by calling 480-983-3100 or visiting his website at www.ShubicLandscapeArt.com.
