Women’s Equality Day Inspires Phoenix Women’s Commission

August 4, 2008 · Published By

Women’s Equality day is celebrated on Aug. 26. It not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment , which granted women the right to vote, but also calls attention to the continuing efforts of women to achieve full equality.

In the spirit of Women’s Equality Day, the Phoenix Women’s Commission seeks to focus attention on the special concerns and challenges that impact women. The commission also focuses on increasing communication and cooperation among women and women’s groups.

“Let’s Talk Money: Financial Literacy for Women” is the theme of the upcoming Women’s Economic Forum in October, sponsored by the commission. The forum will provide an opportunity for women to learn about personal economic growth and development, heighten awareness of women’s economic issues and encourage women to become financially literate.

The Phoenix Women’s Commission also will sponsor the 18th annual International Women’s Day Luncheon Celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. International Women’s Day promotes awareness of the global struggle of women to improve their lives, and the luncheon raises funds for scholarships for re-entry women in Phoenix. The luncheon has raised more than $800,000 since 1991.
