These PCH Handprints Pay Homage to Hope

There is Always Hope, And Here’s Proof!
When it comes to our youth, our children, our future, recent news headlines are often very disheartening. In a society shrouded in endless controversy over which gluten-free, flax-enhanced after school snack is acceptable, or whether or not the latest trend in virtual teddy bear is sufficiently hypoallergenic, it is a beautiful breath of fresh air to be greeted with truly awe-inspiring tales of hope and heroism, and right here in the Valley.
Our own Phoenix Children’s Hospital has recently released four documentary-short videos online that follow four patients with serious illnesses and severe health complications. The shorts, directed by Academy Award® winner Cynthia Wade, walk us through the perspectives of families, doctors and the brave young patients themselves, giving insight into their worlds. The series, entitled “Handprints of Hope,” pays an uplifting homage to both the wonders of medical advancements and the miraculous power of the human spirit.
Through life-threatening journeys towards healing, overcoming pain, fear and obliterating odds, tears and heartache, there is always a faint smile shining through small tears, even during their darkest hour. The clip below features Natalee’s story as she works to recover from several malignant brain tumors, the entire series can be seen at www.pchhandprints.org.
